Is This Real Life?
Hello everybody, my name is Sarah Shamoon. I am currently a junior studying at High Point University, and I am majoring in Strategic Communications and minoring in both Social Media and Media Production and Entrepreneurship. I'm from Malibu, California, and I love going to the beach and spending time with my friends and family! I really enjoy the classes I take about media production, and I would like to be a part of the movie production industry. I am not exactly sure which position of that industry I would like the work in, but I am learning more about each of the job opportunities within the classes I have been taking during my time at High Point University. I also take interest in social media analytics, and I would also be open to pursuing a job in the social media industry. My career path choices are definitely lifelong passions as opposed to practical choices. I want to have a job in which I experience personal fulfillment and growth, working with people that encourage each other to work hard and think creatively.
Have you ever seen or experienced something so unusual that you could barely even believe it was real? Well, just wait until you hear my story. My life started out completely ordinary. I was eighteen, going into my freshman year of college at High Point University. I spent my time enjoying my last few months on the west coast with my best friends at home, and I was looking forward to meeting new people and experiencing living on my own for the first time in the fall. Life was good, and new opportunities awaited.
Eventually, June turned into July and before I knew it, August rolled around. I gave my friends and family about a thousand goodbye hugs as they sent me off to start my journey in North Carolina. Upon arriving at High Point University, I was absolutely baffled at how beautiful every little detail of the campus was. The dorm rooms looked like hotel rooms, there were fountains everywhere I looked, the interior of the buildings was stunning! And that wasn't all, with every day I spent at HPU, I saw or heard something extraordinary about the school. In what world does a five-star steakhouse that serves three-course meals to students as part of their meal plan exist? I definitely wasn't complaining! My friends and I would joke that we were on a television show and that none of this could actually be real. Little did we know.
Sooner or later, things went from crazy to unbelievable. My best friend, Carrigan, and I started experiencing the strangest things. Wherever we went on campus, we had these crazy interactions with all sorts of people. It's almost like the people around would go out of their way to talk to us or do something bizarre that would get our attention. We met people that had the most distinct, character-like personalities and the most ridiculous stories to tell and things to say. Every time we left our rooms we would see something out of the ordinary, for example, people riding their bikes in the hallways of dorm buildings or people getting into fights with each other in the middle of campus. What made every situation much crazier is that no matter how many people were around us, nobody would ever see what happened except for us. Carrigan and I were so confused as to why these things kept happening to us and us only. One morning, before either of us had our first class, we left the dorm building to walk to the cafeteria to get some breakfast. A few step steps into our walk, we couldn't believe our eyes as we both watched something in front of us appear to fall from the sky and land with a crash on the ground. We ran up to the item to get a closer look, and it seemed to be a light, a big one used to light theater performances or films. Neither of us had any idea where this huge stage light could have possibly come from and eventually gave up trying to find ways to explain what we saw.
We went about our life, there was nothing we could do to explain the series of crazy events that happened to us. Until one day, when we were walking back to our dorm after a long day of classes, we realized that one of the electricity units on the side of the buildings was wide open, instead of locked shut like it normally is. We had never seen one before, so we took a closer look at what was inside of it. Instead of what we imagined would be in there, like wires or buttons, we found a TV screen and a bunch of monitors playing what appeared to be our life! Each monitor was playing a different moment from one of our crazy experiences! Carrigan looked under a black box behind one of the monitors and discovered a big black binder full of pages, and the cover said "The Carrigan and Sarah Show". We opened it up, eager to see what could possibly be inside. Every page in the binder was titled with an episode number and a brief title about the instances occurring on that page, each one of them something that had happened to us before. We couldn't believe that what we had joked about our whole time spent at school was actually true! We were living in a TV show made about us, and everybody we met at High Point University was an actor, playing a role and making us think we were simply encountering crazy scenarios.
Turns out, "The Carrigan and Sarah Show" was a huge hit worldwide, and we have fans from all over the globe that enjoyed watching us have no idea we were really in a TV show.
